Everyone loves a good pet. Whether it’s big, small, young, or old, pets and owners share a special bond. Because of this special bond, it can be awfully sad when a pet grows old. Christian Vansickle, local kicker and best athlete nominee, knows a thing or two about old pets. In fact, his dog Mia is 16 years old! That’s 112 years old in dog years! Mia is a mixed breed of unknown origin, but she’s a purebred at heart!
She weighs around 40 pounds and has a heart of gold. The Vansickles rescued Mia when she was just a young pup; now she is thriving and actually runs the Vansickle house. When asked about Mia, Christian said, “The fiercest lion is not the lion on the outside, but the lion on the inside.” This pertains to Mia in many ways. This dog is a fighter, battling each day for her life. However, when Mia finally embraces the sweet release of death and passes over to the other side, we must not grieve. When Mia takes her last breath, she will discover peace in a moment of serendipitous bliss. We mourn the loss of pets (just ask Beau Snuggs), but sometimes it is time to let go. Fly away, Mia. Fly away.
