The 2016 Girls Varsity Tennis showed much improvement from last season. The 21 girls on the team consistently showed up for practice, diligently worked to improve, and maintained a positive spirit and attitude to reach these goals. As a result, two girls made it to the state tournament. Wins against Greensboro day school and The Cannon School propelled us into the State Championship Tournament. This was the team’s first appearance as far back as anyone can remember.
With three freshman and three sophomores routinely playing in the singles lineup, this is a very young team. Freshman Margaret Carlton, an all Conference and State player, led the team playing Flight 1 all season. Although tennis focuses on individual play, good varsity tennis requires that all the teammates support on one another through the ups and downs in a long season. This team each other and it showed in their results. We are very proud of the girls for their hard work, great character representing the school, and commitment to one another.
