It’s that time of year again – the weather is getting cooler, school is back in session, and football has started! In our last football article (following the end of season) we mentioned how much we loved Team 25 and how excited the school is for Team 26. Well, here they are.

Your Charlotte Christian football team is back and ready to go for another season. After a devastating loss to rival Charlotte Latin in the state championship last season, the team is more determined than ever to avenge the loss.

Starting in July, the team went to work every day practicing for hours upon hours to prepare for this year. One benefit the team has on their side is age and experience – a majority of the starters are now upperclassman. The seniority will certainly help after always being considerably younger and smaller than opponents.

Additionally, our coaches and opponents aren’t the only ones who have taken note of our talented roster; many of the athletes are currently committed to or hold offers from Division 1 programs across the nation. Senior running back Justus Woods announced his commitment to Stanford University during the off-season. Junior quarterback Garrett Shrader has offers from nine different teams, most notably the University of Alabama. Jeremiah Gray, a junior safety who transferred from Ardrey Kell last winter, has six offers.

After the departure of offensive coordinator Mike Miller (who took a job as a graduate assistant for Alabama) head coach Jason Estep once again assumed his role of offensive coordinator. CJ Marck joined the team as an inside linebacker coach.

So, with all that said, how is the team feeling? More confident, determined, and ready than ever. After a close loss in the season opener, they are ready to turn the season around and get back on top.

Junior receiver and running back Josh Eboboko summed up the team’s mood going into this year: “It’s ring season.”
