On Friday, September 1, 2017, the Charlotte Christian football team defeated Hendersonville with a score of 63-14.

It was the perfect ending to a questionable game; throughout the week, rumors spread about cancellation due to inclement weather. Even on the two-hour bus ride up into the mountains, no one was certain the game would even take place.

Yet as soon as the bus pulled up to the football field in the middle of this quant, small town, clouds went away and the sun appeared.

In the beginning of the first quarter, an unusual amount of penalties and forced three-and-out on the first drive sent waves of nerves through the away stands. Soon after, though, the Knights got in a rhythm and broke away.

Justus Woods stole the show in the first quarter with 3 touchdowns – and a fourth during the second quarter – which put the Knights up 28-0.

JB Awolowo recorded his second pick 6 in two games, proving once again that he is a threat on both sides of the ball.

Touchdowns by Terrelle Brown, Jacob Giller, Ricky Kofoed, and Chip Kasay sealed the victory as Hendersonville realized the game had slipped out of their hands.

“We played as a team, and that’s what happens when we play as a team,” said Jeremiah Gray.

The Knights will face West Ashley (from Charleston, South Carolina) this Friday at home. We hope to see all of the Sideline Loonies cheering on their Knights to another victory.
