Foard poses with four native children and two other girls partaking on the missions trip. Getting to play with all of the children was a highlight for him.

“You, my brothers and sisters, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the flesh; rather, serve one another humbly in love.” – Galatians 5:13

Over the summer, sophomore Foard Scott lived out this verse. He travelled to a small village called Shandia in Ecuador with the goal of spreading love and happiness along with aiding to improve the lives of the residents there. He wanted to give back. Foard loved the fact that serving the Lord could combine his desire to visit another country, so when the opportunity arose, he seized it.

Upon arrival, his group walked around to get their bearing and were taken aback by the immediate love.

“The kids literally ran out of their small shacks and immediately grabbed our hands and wanted to play,” he says.

Along with being able to play with children, he also helped create a pathway, cleaned trash off the gravel roads, and planted flowers and plants throughout their village. Foard’s favorite part, however, was interacting with everyone whether it be playing soccer or simply letting people hang on their backs.

“This was a great experience and opened my eyes to how happy they were with their circumstances,” says Foard. “A trip that I will never forget.”
