He may be a senior in high school, but Ben Duyck’s beard is well-beyond his years. Since freshman year, he’s been growing it out and today it has become a trademark.

Ben arrived on campus four years ago and has had a large impact since. If there’s one person who exemplifies what it means to be a multi-sport athlete, it’s him. He throws shot put for the track team, plays church league basketball, and is an active volunteer for Special Olympics.

Even though he enjoys all of those sports, Ben’s affinity for football tops everything. He’s been on the varsity offensive line all four years – including the 2014 state championship team. The past three years he has been named All-Conference. This year, Ben made the transition to playing center, and has excelled in his new role. When asked about his talents, Ben replied that he can “run over 300 pound guys”. We agree, that’s impressive.

Not only is football Ben’s favorite pastime, it’s also introduced him to some of his closest friends. These include Jack Mitchell, Griffin Hicks, and Justus Woods. Reid Mayers is also a very close friend to Ben, although the two have never lined up on the football field together.

One of the reasons Ben finds himself so comfortable with other people is because he’s grown up surrounded by others. He has four siblings – two sisters, Emily and Sarah, and two brothers, Ryan and Sam.

After graduation, Ben hopes to attend App State, University of North Carolina at Charlotte, Coastal Carolina, Elon, Furman, or Wofford. He plans to major in business, solely because of the influence of one Charlotte Christian teacher.

Mrs. Edwards, who taught Ben in Intro to Business and Business 2 has expanded his love and interest for the subject. Now, he is ready to make a career out of this passion.

Other teachers who have greatly added to Ben’s experience over the course of high school are Dr. Headley, Mr. Hoff, Mr. Henson, and Mr. Zacarias. All of these teachers have contributed to helping him towards the next step.

Ben, we have truly loved getting to know you the past four years. Whether it be on the field or off, you’ve given us so many memories to look back and smile about for years to come. We wish you the best of luck as you continue on to college.
