Turnovers, and a lot of them. It seemed like every other drive, Latin’s quarterback threw an interception or one of their players fumbled the ball – all of these recovered promptly by the Knights. The defense’s stellar performance played a large part in the 34-0 win against Charlotte Latin.

Friday was the first time the two teams met since last year’s state championship game. Undoubtedly, there was lingering animosity between the long-time rivals and the Knights were determined to come out on top this time. Our team expected to win, but the margin left everyone, including them, a bit shocked.

On the opening kickoff, freshman Chip Kasay returned the ball 96-yards for a touchdown. In the second quarter, junior JT Killen scooped up a fumble and ran it back for a touchdown. On a night honoring the graduating class, the seniors left their mark. Justus Woods found the end zone twice and Terrelle Brown caught a long pass which he ran in for a touchdown.

“It’s crazy that it was my last regular season home game. It feels like just yesterday I was a freshman watching senior night and now my night has passed. It’s awesome to realize how far me and the rest of the guys have come since then,” says Justus. “And it made it even better that we shut out Latin.”

The game was a wonderful showcase of what is departing and all that has yet to come. While the senior class boasts many talented players, on Friday night the underclassman – namely Chip Kasay and Henry Rutledge – showed that there is a lot in store for the Charlotte Christian football program…for years to come.

But, everyone will always remember the class of 2018.
