As soon as Jonah Beamon stepped foot on campus sophomore year, all eyes were on him. Immediately, word spread about the new baseball player on campus – from Covenant Day – who already had multiple Division 1 offers and would be the newest star on the team following the departure of Jackson Kowar. Since then, Jonah has lived up the hype surrounding his athletic abilities, but we’ve also been lucky to get to know him for who he is off the field.

Upon first meeting, Jonah appears quiet and reserved. But, once he opens up, it’s easy to understand why people are so drawn to him. He is extremely funny, kind-hearted, and courteous. Teachers and fellow classmates alike love having the privilege to share a class with him. Not only does he work hard, but he also keeps spirits high – even during boring lessons. Well, if the boring lessons don’t put him to sleep…which they often do. Jonah claims he has a reputation for falling asleep in the middle of class.

Even though he does enjoy taking the occasional nap, it hasn’t affected his grades. Jonah maintains a high average, especially in math – his favorite class.

Okay, so at some point we have to talk about baseball. After all, he will be playing for the University of South Carolina next year (he committed just months after arriving at Charlotte Christian).

In 2015, Jonah was named Youth Baseball Player of the Year. Every year of high school he’s been named All-Conference. Junior year, he was also named All-State.

When Jonah leaves for college next year, he will be leaving behind a younger brother. Jeremy is currently a freshman and also plays baseball. The two love that they share the same passion – baseball – and can always push each other to another level. When their lives aren’t revolving around sports, they love to play video games, listen to music in Jonah’s room, or play basketball in the backyard.

“I usually beat him,” Jeremy jokes.

Next year, the baseball field will be missing a very special player at shortstop, but this is only the first chapter of Jonah’s journey. While Charlotte Christian will miss seeing him make amazing plays every spring, we are so excited to see all he accomplishes at South Carolina…and beyond.
